The official program of the Slovenian government-business delegation, which accompanied Slovenia’s Minister Mr. Matjaž Han on his official visit to China, concluded last Thursday in Shanghai with visits to technological powerhouses HUAWEI and the car manufacturer NIO. On Wednesday, the delegation attended the Europe China CEO Summit, organized by the largest Chinese bank, the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). Keynote speakers included the President of ICBC, Mr. Liao Lin, Deputy Minister for Trade and Economic Cooperation of China, Mr. Ling Ji, prominent Swedish banker and industrialist Mr. Jacob Wallenberg, among others. This was followed by the China-Slovenia Connectivity Forum and bilateral meetings with ICBC representatives. The day’s events continued with the “Dialogue on China-CEEC Digital Economic and Trade Cooperation", where representatives from institutions and companies across China and Central & Eastern Europe shared practical cooperation insights. The day wrapped up with B2B meetings, a visit to the National Innovation Center (NICE), and a joint dinner.

The VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, who has been actively engaging in numerous discussions and meetings throughout intensive previous week as part of the VZMD’s international business-investor programs Invest to Slovenia - investo.si & International Investors' Network - investo.international, was also present in Shanghai. On Tuesday, Mr. Verbič participated in a bilateral meeting with Chinese Deputy Minister Mr. Ling Ji as part of the delegation, attended the CHINA INTERNATIONAL IMPORT EXPO — one of the largest trade fairs in Asia — where Minister Han officially opened the Slovenian pavilion, and joined the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the renowned Slovenian traveler Alma Karlin. Monday was marked by the China-Slovenia Business Conference, where in addition to Minister Han, the event was addressed by Mr. Zhou Minhao, President of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Mr. Hanson Han, CEO of HISENSE EUROPE, presented a successful investment example in Slovenia (Gorenje, d.d.). The conference featured presentations from the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors and witnessed the signing of a significant Cooperation Agreement between Ms. Tanja Mohorič, Director of the Automotive Cluster of Slovenia (ACS), and Mr. Wang Yao, Deputy Chief Engineer of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). The delegation’s intense schedule also included numerous formal and informal meetings as well as B2B discussions.

President Verbič, who remains in Shanghai for other engagements, expressed his congratulations to the delegation organizers — the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS), the public agency SPIRIT Slovenia, and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Beijing, led by the newly appointed Ambassador and seasoned diplomat, His Excellency Mr. Boštjan Malovrh — for an excellent program and execution of the delegation’s visit. This week, another Slovenian delegation specializing in wine and agriculture arrived in China, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Ms. Mateja Čalušić (pictured with Mr. Verbič). This delegation is set to participate in the ProWine fair in Shanghai and Business Forums in both Shanghai and Beijing, once again involving VZMD’s international business-investor programs…
