As Belgium is holding the EU Council presidency, Brussels is playing host to numerous ministerial meetings and high-profile events this week, with the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, attending as many as three of them: the European Consumer Summit 2024, the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF 2024), and the International conference of the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE). He arrived in Brussels as early as Tuesday and met with some of the participants of these events, and has been actively involved in the high-intensity developments in Brussels both yesterday and today.
As part of the WCEF 2024, the EU Circular Economy Forum started yesterday morning under the slogan 'Beyond Experimentation – Europe's leading role in mainstreaming circular practice', addressing the challenges of transforming into a sustainable and circular economy. The breaks during the conference were used to organize direct bilateral talks among the 355 participants from 52 countries.
This was then followed by the International conference of BETTER FINANCE, which took place ahead of the European elections under the title 'Breathing New Life into the Capital Markets Union | A Blueprint for the Next EU Parliament' (VIDEO: www.youtube.com/live/HQoEsgTPjyk). The guests were addressed by, among others, the President of the European Banking Authority (EBA), José Manuel Campa, the Executive Director of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), Fausto Parente, the Head of Listing at Euronext Brussels, Benoit van den Hove, the Executive Director of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), Natasha Cazenave, and many others.
In the evening, there was a dinner reception as part of the European Consumers Summit 2024 (VIDEO), while the day-long conference is taking place today. Invited by the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, Mr. Verbič is once again participating in the event also as a member of the Expert Advisory Group of the Financial Services User Group at the European Commission (FSUG). The conference and its workshops are hosting 570 stakeholders from every EU Member State, discussing the future priorities and measures of the consumer policy.
