Yesterday, Brussels played host to the international conference of the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) entitled 'Back to the Future - the promises and perils of digital finance'; the conference was also attended by the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, as the member of the Financial Services User Group at the EUROPEAN COMMISSION (FSUG).
The conference was well-attended, and the guests discussed the opportunities, the benefits, and also the threats the consumers are facing due to the ever faster digitalization of financial services. The conference began with the speech given by the BEUC President, Mr. Arnold Koopmans. Many prominent guests also shared their views, including the European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union, Ms. Mairead McGuinness, the Executive Director of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), Ms. Natasha Cazenave, the Director General of BEUC, Ms. Monique Goyens, and many others. As an active member of the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE), the VZMD has been collaborating with BEUC for many years. As per usual, Mr. Verbič took this opportunity for the talks regarding the current efforts and procedures conducted by the VZMD against the Slovenian telecommunication operators (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/itxmtIdHpK8), and also met with the Secretary General of the Slovenian Consumers' Association (ZPS), Ms. Jasmina Bevc Behar, and the Head of Financial Services Department at ZPS, Mr. Marko Tretnjak (in the photo).
The VZMD President arrived in Brussels immediately after he had attended the pre-New year reception of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange and the Central Securities Clearing Corporation (KDD) where he spoke with numerous prominent actors in the Slovenian capital market. Mr. Verbič's activities in Brussels are continued with a two-day meeting of the FSUG Advisory Group.
