Today the "ESAs Consumer Protection Day" joint conference is taking place at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Hungary in Budapest. The event is being jointly organized for the 11th time by the EU Banking Authority (EBA), the EU Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), and the EU Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). This year's theme is "Fair access to the future of financial services." The conference was opened by ESMA Chair, Verena Ross, and Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Hungary, Csaba Kandrács. Following the opening remarks, panel discussions & presentations are focused on artificial intelligence in the financial sector, empowering consumers in the digital age, improving accessibility and user experience of financial services, and ensuring a stable regulatory framework that benefits consumers.
At the invitation of the organizers, the President of VZMD, Kristjan Verbič, is actively participating in this event, as a current member of the Financial Services User Group (FSUG) at the EU Commission, and a member of the Consultative Working Group (CWG) of the ESMA Investor Protection Standing Committee. He was appointed to this significant position just a few days ago after having previously participated in other advisory groups of ESMA's Standing Committees. Mr. Verbič is also using this opportunity to engage in discussions regarding the protection of financial services users' rights, consumer interests, and collective (clasc) actions, collaborating closely with the Consumer Association of Slovenia (ZPS), as well as the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC).

Immediately after the conclusion of today’s conference in Budapest, VZMD President will fly to Milan, Italy, where a 3-day meeting of the World Federation of Investors (WFI) begins this evening. The main event will be tomorrow's International Investors Conference titled "Building Financial Futures: Promoting Shareholder Engagement and Financial Literacy," which has been actively prepared with the involvement of WFI, the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE), and the Italian association New Savers.
