Last week, New York hosted the WORLD LAW CONGRESS, which Mr. Kristjan Verbič attended as the only speaker from Slovenia. At the "ANTI-CORRUPTION: LINKS TO ORGANIZED CRIME" panel (VIDEO: https://fb.watch/lZYztbV8-Y/), he spoke about the problem of systemic corruption and the different understanding of it at the global level, and touched on the related conceptual difference between east and west. He proposed that at their crossroads in Slovenia, the "International Anti-Corruption Court" be established, about which there have already been quite a few discussions in the international community.
The high-profile conference and its 53 panels, organized by the WORLD JURIST ASSOCIATION as part of its 60th anniversary celebration (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/5_9_oGlDi_4) - the association is a non-government organization with special status granted by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nation (ECOSOC) - was attended by numerous prominent international guests, highest representatives of states, judges, activists and other prominent authorities in the field of law and justice. The guests were addressed by the King of Spain, Felipe VI, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, Philippine journalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Maria Ressa, and numerous other speakers. On this occasion, honors and awards were presented at the UN Headquarters. The first day, the conference took place at the New York City Bar Association. Select guests and speakers also attended the gala dinner at the eminent METROPOLITAN CLUB.
This was not the first visit of the VZMD President to the UN, as he had actively attended the international forum of Independent Financial Advisors (CIFA) back in 2019, organized by the ECOSOC and a group of G77 developing countries. Back then, he had the privilege to address the distinguished guests at the reception of the sponsors in the Metropolitan Club, and had given several interviews for the local media as part of the conference (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/Zqejvr6V2vM). The VZMD's presence in New York with its international business-investor programs: Invest to Slovenia (investo.si) and International Investors` Network (investo.international), has been a long-standing affair. Among other things, in 2015 Mr. Verbič had attended the grand opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia, the business breakfast with the financial industry representatives, as well as the meeting organized by the Luxembourg Association of Financial and Capital Funds (ALFI) and the Luxembourg Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (LPEA).
