At the beginning of the week, the traditional Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) took place, with this year’s title “Bridging the Divide”. One of the most important foreign policy events in Slovenia and in the region took place in light of overcoming the differences in circumstances when opinions and viewpoints differ. The organizers stated that the predictions and indeed hope of many political thinkers at the end of the 20th century that access to information would result in greater homogeneity has not materialized. The two-day Forum hosted 30 round tables, presentations and other events which were attended by over 1,300 prominent guests, most important representatives in the area of politics, diplomacy, the economy and non-government organization from 60 countries.
Besides almost all top politicians of the Republic of Slovenia there were also these guests present: Mr. Michel Barnier, Chief Negotiator of the European Commission for the Negotiations with the United Kingdom about Brexit, Mrs. Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport, Mrs. Ohood Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing at the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Igor Crnadak, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Carmelo Abela, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of the Republic of Malta, Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Dr. Srdjan Darmanović, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Behgjet Pacolli, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Gent Cakaj, Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Thomas Greminger, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Aleksander Čeferin, President of UEFA, and many others.
Mr. Kristjan Verbič, President of the PanSlovenian Investors' & Shareholders' Association (VZMD), has also been among attendees since 2011. He took this opportunity to conduct many meetings and talks about current affairs in connection with appointment of the Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, harmful propositions in urgent process of adopting the new ZTFI Act (Financial Instruments Market Act), expectations of the new Government, as well as international business-investor programs of the VZMD: Invest to Slovenia (investo.si) and International Investors` Network (investo.international). He exchanged his views with many attendees and key Forum participants, among others with the European Negotiator Mr. Barnier, whom he met for the first time in 2013 (VIDEO), when Mr. Barnier was the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, and Mr. Čeferin, the President of UEFA, whom he last saw in January this year in Zagreb (VIDEO), at the “SLOVENIAN BUSINESS CENTER”, during the European handball championship, and others.
