The meetings of the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE) and the World Federation of Investors (WFI) were held last week in Vienna. As a member of the Executive boards of both BETTER FINANCE and the WFI, the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, took an active part in the events after having arrived to Vienna from Madrid immediately after the conclusion of the joint conference of the European regulatory and supervisory authorities – ESAs Consumer Protection Day.
On Thursday, the General meeting of the WFI and two meetings of BETTER FINANCE, one of the Executive board and the other of the Legal board, took place, followed by a joint reception in the evening. As part of the annual review of the activities, Mr. Verbič updated the guests on the development of the class actions against the Slovenian telecommunication operators and presented the successfully concluded cases of joint sales and the achieved higher financial settlements, also in several squeeze-out cases, as well as the enforcement of some of the Association's legislative proposals.
On Friday, the Vienna Stock exchange hosted the International investor conference organized by BETTER FINANCE and the Austrian Investor Association (IVA) entitled 'Upholding Sustainable & Accessible Capital Markets for European Investors'. Numerous distinguished speakers addressed the current affairs, including the development of the capital market in Central and Eastern Europe, the EU strategy for retail investors, the reporting standards on sustainable development, pensions, as well as collective redress in relation to the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG). In the evening, the formal part of the program concluded in the premises of Reiffeisen Bank International which also featured a Gala dinner reception. As always, arrangements were made for the presentation of the investment opportunities, activities, and possibilities included in the business-investor programs of the VZMD: Invest to Slovenia – investo.si and International Investors` Network – investo.international.
