At the end of last week, the PanSlovenian Shareholders' and Investors' Association (VZMD) sent a new press release to global media via an information portal in the US, vzmd.newswire.com, regarding the scandalous expropriation of shareholders and bondholders of Slovenian banks. VZMD welcomes the fact that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia confirmed the view which has been expressed by VZMD's associates since December 4, 2013 when the first initiative for a constitutional review of the controversial amendment of the Banking Act (ZBan-1L) was lodged; namely, this law with which the self-proclaimed "domestic troika" nationalized as many as six Slovenian banks is unconstitutional and even to such an extent that it violates a number of constitutionally protected human rights.

VZMD turned to international and global media as part of their efforts to start a constructive resolution of the said issues as was the case in all other European countries. Their press release has so far been recapitulated andpublished by over 130 influential global media and web portals. VZMD has been following with the deep concern the complete unresponsiveness of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Miro Cerar and the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Dušan Mramor, who, after more than three months, have not responded, not even out of courtesy, to the open letter by the President of the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BetterFinance), Mr. Jean Berthon.

Regarding this, the VZMD President and a member of the BetterFinance Executive Board, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, explained at the Executive Board’s last meeting that "it unfortunately seems that the Slovenian authorities only react to citizens’ initiatives or initiatives of the civil society and its institutions in cases of referendum initiatives; therefore, the VZMD is seriously considering this approach," which was met with disbelief by members from other European countries. BetterFinance and the VZMD also point out that the said open letter was also addressed to the President of the European Commission and two competent European Commissioners, but their response was received a long-time ago together with explanations and suggestions.

Note that following the presentation of "Bail-in: How far does it have to go?" presented in December 2015 at the BetterFinance’s General Meeting by the member of the VZMD Expert Council, Mr. Tadej Kotnik, and the VZMD President, in February 2016 BetterFinance addressed an open letter to the European Commission and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia calling upon them to immediately examine the possibilities to resolve this untenable situation and begin settlement proceedings as soon as possible.
